New Year, New Challenge - Recipe Clippings

#RecipeClippings
Do you have a folder full of recipes cut from magazines, copied from your mother, grandmother or friends?  I have four A4 folders stuffed full of recipes and those are the ones I'm prepared to own up to, as there are also various notebooks with recipes I wrote out by hand in my teens and twenties!

I hadn't intended to create a new blog event, it all came about through an instagram post  about my recipe clippings which seemed to strike a chord with some others.  I was going to keep it to instagram but, after thinking about it, I realised that it would be hard to keep track only through instagram and there would be a real chance that the whole thing would just fade away.

There are a number of ways you can join in and cook up the recipes from your #RecipeClippings

Make a recipe from a magazine/newspaper clipping or note:

      • post a photograph and the recipe, or a link to a recipe, on your blog and add to the InLinkz linky at the bottom of this post. Link to Farmersgirl Kitchen in your blog post and include the #RecipeClippings logo
                          OR
      • post a photograph and description on Instagram tagging FarmersgirlCook and using #RecipeClippings
                         OR
      • post a photograph and description on Twitter tagging @FarmersgirlCook and using #RecipeClippings
                         OR

YOU ONLY NEED TO DO ONE OF THESE, BUT YOU CAN DO MORE IF YOU WISH

Rules:
  • You may post recipes you have clipped from magazines, newspapers or have written down from friends and family. Please credit the author of the recipe or ask permission.
  • Please say where the recipe came from.
  • Three entries per month.
  • I will re-share any posts and/or photos that are tagged
  • Recipes must be added to the linky by the 28th of each month.

If you make a vegetarian recipe you might also like to link up to Bookmarked Recipes at Tinned Tomatoes, where you can share recipes you have bookmarked in books and on websites as well as from your clippings.

Go get those #RecipeClippings and make the recipes

you liked the look of so much, you cut them out!

Club Chocolat Francais - French Chocolate Club

The delicious smell when you open this box of 'folies gourmandes' from Club Chocolat Francais is not just of chocolate and sugar, but there is a strong smell of fruit!  This selection of chocolates includes glorious slices of crystalised orange dipped in dark chocolate, and chocolates flavoured with strawberry, raspberry, cranberry, passionfruit as well as caramel, coconut and almonds.  I really enjoyed these chocolates, the chocolate is very good quality and the flavours are not the same sort of selection we have here in the UK.

Club Chocolat Francais is a gourmet chocolate tasting club.  Members are invited to participate in the creation of new and exciting chocolates as well as to share tasting notes and experiences with other members. They are currently running an introductory offer on their 12 month subscription with the first month costing £9.95, the 11 months will be the usual price of £19.95.

I'm afraid I would not be willing to spend £20 on a box of chocolates and certainly not every month, no matter how good they are.  But if you are passionate about your chocolate  have a look at the Club Chocolat Francais or if your purse or your inclination does not stretch to a large box of chocs every month then you might also want to check out the chocolate boutique where smaller quantities of chocolates, including Agen Prunes dipped in chocolate, are on sale.

Club Chocolat Francais also have a Facebook Page  and a range of Pinterest Boards

Disclosure Statement: I received this box of Club Chocolat Francais chocolates for review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. The prices are correct at time of posting.

Sweetcorn Bites - a review

I was asked to try out these Sweetcorn  Bites by Barfoots of Botley.  I wasn't quite sure what Sweetcorn Bites were going to be, but it turns out that they are, quite simply, sliced up corncobs packaged up in a bag ready to put into the microwave.

It was certainly very simple to prepare the corn cobs.  Cut open the bag, add one tablespoon of water, then microwave for around 4 minutes, depending on the power of your microwave.

The Sweetcorn Bites were tasty enough, although I have tasted better sweetcorn particularly when it is UK grown and in season.  These cobs came from Senegal, which seems a very long way to import your vegetables.*   On the positive side, they were quick and easy, would be ideal to encourage older children and teenagers to eat vegetables as a snack because they are so quick and easy to make.  You can also steam, roast and boil the cobs to prepare.  They would  be great for an impromptu barbeque when you don't want to spend too much time preparing.

You can find out more about Sweetcorn Bites on their Facebook Page

* I asked Kelly for some more information about the sourcing of the sweetcorn and here is what she told me:  Just to hopefully allay some of your concerns, all of Barfoot’s growers are accredited and have numerous ethical credentials.  Sweetcorn Bites are grown on the south coast of England when in season and they move to the Senegal produce when import season begins. They work particularly closely with Senegal having invested in local infrastructure and cross-board integration with SCL farms.

The Sweetcorn Bites product is made on a British Farm all year – as whether the sweetcorn is picked in adjacent fields or from their global supply base it all goes through the same production process on the Barfoot’s farm site.

I was supplied with the Sweetcorn Bites by Barfoots of Botley, this post represents my honest opinion of the product.
