So here we are in my kitchen looking at the custom built shelves, I am fortunate to have found a fantastic carpenter who interprets my designs and makes them work. If you look carefully you will see that the middle section is for the medium sized books, there are different sized shelves at the ends so that the tall books go on the bottom and the smaller ones on the top. The theory is that I'm supposed to throw out a book before I can get a new one - do you think that happens?
Here is a bit of a closer shot of the middle section, the sun was shining in the window (I know, it hasn't happened often!) so it was quite difficult to get the photos. So that is the tidy and organised part of the collection and I could have left it there with you thinking how tidy I am with my lovely book shelves...
Lets go into the dining room which is just off the kitchen. Next to my chair at the table there is a pile of magazines and often cookbooks too. I read these when I am having breakfast or after my tea.
Down to the left of my chair is the magazine box, which is full of cooking magazines on their way to or from the dining table. Let's go into the living room now...
Here on the floor beside the computer are some more cook books that I have been referring to while blogging, they haven't made their way back to the kitchen bookshelves yet.
And finally another couple of magazines open at recipes I am going to make (I've actually made these two) and the brown Orla Keilly notebook where I jot down all the blog challenges and changes to recipes as I'm making them.
I hope you've enjoyed your mini break in my home, as you can see I am totally obsessed with food and cooking, but if you are a regular visitor to Farmersgirl Kitchen, that will not surprise you!
Why not pop over Belleau Kitchen to find out all about the challenge and join in by offering a little mini-break of your own.
Smashing view of everything there Janice...quite similar to mine in lots of ways...interesting to see how you organise your ideas and challenges too. x
ReplyDeleteThat is a very good idea having custom built shelves. My little brother has recently qualified as a carpenter, I will have to commission him when collection outgrows the current bookcase!
ReplyDeleteThis is a winning idea and your collection of books is so much more organised than mine which are all over the place. Must get snapping them now!
ReplyDeleteIt IS just like a mini-break... or maybe a magical mystery tour...? maybe I should charge for tickets...? love that some of your books are very tidy and almost anally neat in their bookshelves and others are laying about with wild abandon!... thanks so much for entering xx
ReplyDeleteSo tidy! And I love all the little piles of things on their way to somewhere else. Our house is a LOT like that too, only a lot of the piles are full of very random things...
ReplyDeletewow thats quite a collection and great bookcase
ReplyDeleteHee hee Janice, it IS a mini-break! Your shelves for different sizes is just inspired. How many cookbooks do you have?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour Janice. It's the best mini break I've had for a long while :) I love your custom made bookshelf! I write ideas for challenges in a notebook too! :) X
ReplyDeleteMy cook books are all over the place, including my bedroom, plus there are boxes of cooking magazines everywhere. I don't even dare to take photos. :)
ReplyDeleteTHANK goodness for that Janice! I have been holding off showing mine as they are ALL over the place, but I feel so much better now! LOL! GREAT Mini break!
ReplyDeleteWowsers...what a lot of books...a fab collection! That bookcase looks just perfect for accommodating them too! I'm going to try and photograph mine over the weekend! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh how I love being nosey! Brilliant shelf x
ReplyDeleteLove seeing all your cookbooks - it's all very organised and tidy - the custom built shelves are very clever!
ReplyDeleteGreat tour of your books Janice, but oh how envious I am of your lovely shelves and the space you have in your kitchen to fit them in.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new visitor to Farmersgirl Kitchen, thanks for a glimpse at your home. You do certainly look very organised, my books and magazines are certainly much more haphazard! How luxurious to have custom built shelves but such a great idea to include your books as an integral part of the kitchen. GG
ReplyDeleteYour shelves are wonderful and so organised.
ReplyDeleteI love this little tour around the books.
Sue xx
